Ahead of the much-awaited T20 World Cup 2026 starting on February 7, allegations of match-fixing and multiple code violations have emerged against USA cricketer Aaron Jones. Jones, who was set to play the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, has now been provisionally suspended under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

The United States batsman has been charged with five counts of breaching the Cricket West Indies (CWI) and ICC anti-corruption codes. For the T20 World Cup 2026, the USA cricket team is in Sri Lanka to prepare for the tournament. Jones is also with the team and could be named in the country’s final squad. But now, as the charges against him have been accepted, Jones is no longer eligible for selection for the T20 World Cup 2026 squad.

USA has not yet announced the squad for T20 World Cup 2026

According to ESPNcricinfo, a group of 18 USA players are in a training camp in Sri Lanka ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, including the 31-year-old Jones. The USA cricket team has not yet announced its squad for the tournament.

Hopefully they can confirm a 15-man squad for the title race. But the team management will not be able to select Aaron Jones at present. The veteran cricketer has 14 days to respond to the allegations.

According to the official press release, these charges have been issued against Aaron Jones:

Breach of Article 2.1.1 of the CWI Code – Being a party to (or attempting to do so) any agreement or attempt to fix or otherwise improperly influence the outcome, progress, conduct, or other aspect of matches in the BIM10 tournament in 2023/24.

Breach of Article 2.4.2 of the CWI Code – Failure to disclose to Cricket West Indies details of any approach or invitation to engage in conduct which would be a breach of the CWI Code.

Breach of Article 2.4.4 of the CWI Code – Failure or refusal to co-operate with a proper investigation conducted by the Designated Anti-Corruption Officer (or his designee) in relation to potential offenses under the CWI Code.

Breach of Article 2.4.4 of the ICC Code – Failing to disclose to the ICC ACU full details of any approach or invitation it received to engage in corrupt conduct under the ICC Code.

Breach of Article 2.4.7 of the ICC Code – Obstructing the ACU’s investigation of potentially corrupt conduct by suppressing and/or tampering with information that may be relevant to the investigation or that may constitute evidence or lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct.

Since the International Cricket Council is taking this matter in a strict hand, the further process may be lengthy. “These charges are part of a broader investigation, which is likely to result in further charges being brought against other participants in due course.”

Jones helped America defeat Pakistan

Currently, the cricketer has been suspended from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. They will have to reply within 14 days from January 28, 2026.

For the USA cricket team, Aaron Jones has played memorable innings, including an unbeaten 36 off 26 balls against Pakistan. During the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 match, USA defeated Pakistan cricket team via Super Over.
