Former India national cricket team batsman Manoj Tiwary has talked about when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should fire Gautam Gambhir from the post of head coach of all formats.
Manoj Tiwari said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should take a bold decision to remove Gautam Gambhir from the role of head coach if he fails to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Gautam Gambhir – a monster T20I coach
Ever since Gambhir took over as India’s head coach across all formats, he has completely transformed the team. The Men in Blue have started playing very aggressive cricket and this aggression is not limited to just the batting department.
Along with playing aggressive cricket with the bat, India has also shown tremendous aggression with the ball and on the field.
The Gautam Gambhir-Suryakumar Yadav duo has led India to immense success, and now, even without the superstar culture, the Indian T20I is considered the best in the world, with all 15 players in the team making sensational contributions.
Overall, India have won 24 out of 28 T20I matches and registered 12 wins in 20 ODIs under Gambhir. His Test statistics as head coach look disappointing as he has won only 7 out of 19 matches.
If Gautam Gambhir does not win T20 World Cup 2026 then BCCI should take a big decision: Manoj Tiwari
In a recent conversation, Manoj Tiwari said that even though the BCCI has provided good support to Gambhir, they should really sack him after the T20 World Cup 2026 if India does not win the trophy.
“If Gautam Gambhir fails to win the T20 World Cup 2026, then the BCCI should take a big and tough decision. The BCCI secretary has said that we will talk with Gambhir till his contract expires. But if the T20 World Cup 2026 does not bring results for Gambhir, then I think the BCCI will take a big decision and remove him,” Tiwari was quoted as saying by InsideSport.

Manoj Tiwari further said that BCCI should follow proper procedure while appointing Gautam Gambhir’s successor. Tiwary supported VVS Laxman to take charge as the new head coach of India because he is a sorted person and a very nice person.
“It should be a process-driven thing. When Rahul Dravid was the coach of India and if he missed a series, the natural choice was VVS Laxman. Being the head coach, Laxman has always had a good win percentage. In my opinion, the BCCI should convince him because he is a sorted person and he is also a very nice person. He also has coaching experience.”

The Men in Blue will enter the ICC Men’s T20 World 2026 as heavy favorites and if they manage to capture the title, it will be Gambhir’s third major trophy as India head coach.
