Indian Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the New Zealand T20 series and the subsequent ICC T20 World Cup. Therefore, Gill has been included in Punjab’s Ranji Trophy squad.
Shubman Gill has not played for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy for some time and made his comeback in the domestic red-ball tournament with the match against Saurashtra. He was last seen in the ODI series between India and New Zealand, which India eventually lost 2–1.
Shubman Gill failed to make a comeback in Ranji Trophy!
Indian skipper Shubman Gill failed to prove his dominance in the red-ball format as he returned to the field against Saurashtra at the Niranjan Shah Ground in Rajkot, the same ground where India lost their first ODI to New Zealand earlier in the series.
Gill performed brilliantly in the longest format of the game and became the highest scorer in the 2025 calendar year. He would have liked to continue the same sequence in the 2026 season, but failed to give himself a solid start.
The Punjab captain was out for a duck on two balls as Punjab’s score read 73/4 after his dismissal. Parth Bhutt got back-to-back wickets, including trapping Gill Plumb in front of three stumps.
Batting at No. 5 for Punjab vs Saurashtra in Ranji, Shubman Gill was out for a duck in two balls.
