Gill reached Indore on January 18 for the final match of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand at the Holkar Stadium.

Indore is currently facing a serious public health crisis, as contaminated drinking water has led to an outbreak of water-borne diseases in the Bhagirathpura area.

So far this crisis has taken the lives of 23 people. The state government has officially confirmed 15 deaths before the High Court, while compensation has been provided to 21 affected families. Six patients are in the ICU, of which one has been shifted to the general ward and three are on ventilator support.

For health reasons, Shubman Gill carries alkaline water RO with him.

According to Dainik Jagran, Shubman Gill has been carrying an alkaline water RO system with him for the last six to seven months. He drinks its water only and takes his health seriously.

Gill believes that alkaline water helps with hydration and recovery, as it is better absorbed into the body and has antioxidant benefits. The report also states that former Indian captain Virat Kohli consumes alkaline water. A source close to Gill said that many athletes now follow the same practice.

The report clarifies that this habit has no connection with the recent deaths due to contaminated water in Indore. Athletes prefer to have such systems because alkaline water is not readily available in every city, especially during long trips.

India wants to repeat the success over Holkar in the series decider.

India returned to the Holkar Stadium in Indore with strong memories of their last ODI in September 2023. In that match, Shubman Gill scored 104 and Shreyas Iyer scored 105 as India scored 399 runs and defeated Australia by 99 runs.

India will be hoping for a similar result in the series decider against New Zealand. Gill is leading the team, while Shreyas is making a comeback after a long injury.

In Vadodara, Virat Kohli led India to victory by scoring 93 runs, but the bowlers gave away 300 runs. In Rajkot, India struggled with the bat and could only manage 285 runs despite KL Rahul’s unbeaten 112. After this, New Zealand chased the target comfortably and won with 15 balls remaining.
