39-year-old Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye has finally bid farewell to his Big Bash League career as he announced his retirement ahead of the Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers match. He has now signed a huge two-year deal with Yorkshire for the Vitality Blast.

Andrew Tye made his debut in 2013 when he began participating in the Big Bash League. Tye played for the Perth Scorchers throughout his BBL career; However, he started his career playing for Sydney Thunder and is now all set to conclude it in the Melbourne Renegades jersey.

The Australian fast bowler was born in December 1986 and has featured for Western Australia in junior level domestic cricket. He has also represented Australia in senior level men’s international cricket in both ODI and T20I formats.

Andrew Tye retires as second highest BBL wicket taker

Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye started his career at the age of 26, and after three years of brilliant cricket, he made his debut for Australia at the age of 29 and appeared in 7 ODI and 32 T20I games.

In 2021–22, he became the first Perth Scorchers pacer to take 100 wickets in Big Bash League history. With 162 wickets, Tye was the second-highest wicket-taker in the BBL and has announced that he is playing his last game in the Big Bash against his former franchise Perth Scorchers.

Throughout his career, Tye has performed brilliantly for the Perth Scorchers, taking multiple wickets in every edition and managing to take 159 wickets for the Scorchers. Furthermore, his best season came in 2022/23 when he took 26 wickets, breaking his own record of 25 wickets in 2021/22 with the Scorchers.

Ty signs two-year deal with Yorkshire in Vitality Blast

Andrew Tye has signed a two-year deal with England county team Yorkshire to feature in the upcoming Vitality Blast T20 games.

“Everyone saw a post regarding my contract with the Yorkshire team for the Vitality T20 Blast, but that post did not mention that I have signed as a local player, which means this will be my last season in the BBL,” Andrew Tye said in his retirement statement.

Widely known for his lethal knuckleball, Tye has established himself as one of the most destructive bowlers in the world, especially in the death overs. The right-handed batsman has taken 86 wickets in the last 6 seasons in the Vitality T20 Blast.

In his short and illustrious career, Andrew Tye has taken 47 wickets in T20 Internationals and has also taken 12 wickets in his ODI career for Australia. Apart from his international career, he has taken 27 first-class wickets and 148 List A wickets.

Ty has been playing T20 cricket all over the world, as he has also played in the Big Bash League, Major League Cricket, Vitality Blast, PSL and IPL. In five IPL seasons, Tye has worked for four franchises, including Gujarat Lions, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants.

In a total of 249 matches throughout his career in the shortest format of the game, he has taken 343 wickets with best bowling figures of 5/17. He has taken three five-wicket hauls in his career and three BBL hat-tricks and one in his first IPL season in 2017.
