Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali was caught in a dramatic moment on the field during the 34th match of the ongoing Big Bash League 2025-26 (BBL 2025-26) between Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne.
A routine stoppage turned into a moment of frustration and a costly mistake for both Hasan Ali and the Adelaide Strikers on Tuesday (January 13). The Pakistani fast bowler first misjudged the ball, allowing the ball to go past him when it should have been stopped cleanly, and then wasted another chance by hitting a four.
Hasan Ali’s costly misfield gives four runs to Melbourne Stars in BBL 2025-26 match
The incident unfolded in Melbourne Stars’ 8th chase in the crucial BBL 2025-26 clash at the MCG. Tabraiz Shamsi bowled a full ball outside the off stump to Thomas Rogers. The batsman stepped forward and played a clean drive, hitting the ball away from extra cover.
The shot quickly went towards the boundary. Hasan was fielding deep at sweeper cover and had to run for long distances. He chased the ball hard and first tried to stop it with his right hand, but he missed. Realizing that the ball was still heading towards the boundary line, he then jumped in, desperate to pull it back. However, the ball touched the boundary cushion during the dive.

Because of this, the on-field umpires were not completely sure whether it was a four or whether Hasan had saved it in time. Well, the decision was sent up to the third umpire. After watching the replay, the third umpire confirmed that the ball had touched the cushion. Since the ball touched the boundary, Rogers got four runs.

Tom Curran’s brilliant bowling ends Adelaide Strikers’ playoff hopes
Meanwhile, Tom Curran ended Adelaide Strikers’ playoff hopes with his remarkable bowling performance and kept Melbourne Stars alive in the race for the BBL 2025-26 final. He produced the best bowling performance of his T20 career and completely demolished the Strikers’ batting line-up.
Curran was brilliant with the new ball, using the right length and movement to trouble every batsman and returning with impressive figures of 4/10 from his four overs. Mitchell Swepson also provided good support with three wickets as the Adelaide Strikers were bowled out for just 83 runs in 19.3 overs, their second lowest score in BBL history.

Strikers’ batting woes continue
The strikers had to struggle from the beginning. He lost early wickets, could not hit boundaries in the powerplay and played poor shots under pressure. Their lower order batsmen failed completely and the innings collapsed rapidly.
Chasing a small target, Melbourne Stars played cautiously as the MCG pitch was not easy to bat on. Tom Rogers scored 32 runs and helped in the chase. Stoinis also contributed 23 unbeaten runs. But just before the victory, he was hit by a fast ball on his right thumb and went out of the field. The Stars still won the match by six wickets and kept their hopes of the final intact.
