India Will face New Zealand in the second match of the three-match ODI series. This article provides details about the playing 11 of India vs New Zealand for the second match of the series.
India Playing XI vs New Zealand – 2nd ODI, New Zealand tour of India 2026:
Openers: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma
India will be looking to register a win in the second ODI against New Zealand and try to win another series after winning the first series.
The home team will have to rely on its players to perform well in their respective departments and create problems for the opposition team.
The onus will be on the opening batsmen to lead the batting department of the Men in Blue by providing them a good start against the new ball in the first ten overs.
The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will look to set a platform for the middle-order batsmen to take advantage.
Additionally, both the batsmen will be expected to perform well individually as well, with Gill aiming to score another half-century while Rohit will be looking to convert the start he got into big scores in this particular match.
Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy.
The openers will be followed by the middle order which had collapsed a bit after the good starts given by the top four batsmen in the last game.
The team management will hope that players like Ravindra Jadeja and the man who will replace Washington Sundar in the next match will get the job done.
Having said that, it was not all bleak for India in the batting department, with Kohli continuing the good work this home season with a score of 93, and he was well supported by Shreyas Iyer, who scored 49 on his return.
The former ODI World Cup winners would like the pair to perform more in the second ODI and have the other batsmen support them to deliver a more solid performance in the batting department.
Bowlers: Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna
As far as India’s bowling is concerned, it is expected to include the same players who took the field in the last match, except Washington Sundar, who has been ruled out of the series.
Nitish Kumar Reddy is expected to replace Sundar in the playing eleven for the second game and play the role of the sixth bowler.
It is expected that Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj will take the new ball from both ends and they will be entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring success in the first ten overs, which was not the case in Vadodara.
Having said that, both Harshit and Siraj kept the New Zealand bats in check despite not being able to take wickets and when the ball got old they came back strong and were supported by Prasidh Krishna.
India’s spin bowling department is predicted to consist of only two spinners in the form of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.
