Harry Brook has been given a final warning over his behavior after being involved in a late-night incident with a bouncer ahead of the Ashes series. According to The Telegraph, the incident led to an internal investigation by the team management and Brook came close to losing his role as England white-ball captain.

England’s behavior during the Ashes series against Australia was criticized. During the mid-series break in Noosa, players, including Brook, were seen drinking. Ben Duckett was also seen drunk and confused late at night and these incidents raised questions about discipline and professionalism.

After this, Brook got into an argument with the bouncer and got hurt, although he was not injured. He later informed the team management himself and no external complaint was made. However, the timing raised concerns as the incident occurred the night before an ODI match.

That match was the third ODI at the Sky Stadium. England, batting first, scored 31 runs for four wickets, in which Brook scored six runs in 11 balls. England lost the match by two wickets and trailed 3-0 in the series.

Harry Brook was fined almost £30,000 for the incident, the largest fine handed out by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), reports said. This amount is equivalent to four percent of his central contract retainer.

An ECB spokesperson said, “We are aware of this incident and it has been dealt with through a formal and confidential ECB disciplinary process. The player involved has apologized and acknowledged that his conduct on this occasion fell short of expectations.”

“Representing England is the greatest honor, one I take seriously and I am deeply sorry for disappointing my team-mates, coaches and supporters. I have reflected on the lessons it has taught me about responsibility, professionalism and the standards expected of those representing your country.

“I am determined to learn from this mistake and restore trust through my future actions on and off the field. I apologize unreservedly and will work hard to ensure this does not happen again.”
