On 3 January, the Indian selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar announced the squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand starting on 11 January at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara. In a move that surprised fans, Agarkar reportedly did not even entertain Shami’s name during the selection meeting, signaling the end of the star bowler’s journey with India.

Well, as soon as BCCI made the announcement, angry reactions started pouring in on social media from fans questioning Shami’s complete exclusion. Many fans believe that the experienced fast bowler still has a lot to offer in the ODI format. He has not played for India since March 2025.
