The dominant win gave Pretoria Capitals their first win of the ongoing SA20 2025-26, while MI Cape Town’s poor start continued with their third consecutive defeat in the tournament.

Pretoria Capitals posted a strong score of 220/5 after a poor start at 39/3. This inning was based on Vihaan Lubey’s important inning of 60 runs in 36 balls. Shai Hope supported Lubb with 45 off 30 balls, helping Pretoria recover from a poor start before an unforgettable final attack from Sherfane Rutherford and Dewald Brewis.

The Capitals reached 100 in 11.5 overs before one of the most explosive finishes seen in SA20 history completely changed the game. Sherfane Rutherford and Brewis created complete chaos in the final overs by putting on an unbeaten 86-run partnership for the sixth wicket in just 27 balls.
The pair completely destroyed the MI Cape Town bowling, hitting six sixes in a row and scoring 72 runs in the last three overs alone. In reply, MI Cape Town’s target went from 100/2 to 135 all out thanks to Rutherford’s game-changing spell of 4/24 from three overs.

After a quiet start to the tournament, Sherfane Rutherford was on top of his usual form. The destruction started in the 18th over bowled by Corbin Bosch, where Brewis hit two sixes with ease. The mayhem reached its peak in Dwayne Pretorius’s next over, as Rutherford hit four consecutive sixes to all parts of the ground.
Pretorius conceded 36 runs in his two overs without taking any wicket, while star fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and George Linde were unable to stop the flow of runs. The Caribbean hitter scored an unbeaten 47 off just 15 balls with a staggering strike rate of 313.

When MI Cape Town were at 100/2 and were chasing aggressively, Rutherford flipped the script. Bowling with pace and control, he took 4 for 24 in three overs. He removed Reeza Hendricks, George Linde, Dwayne Pretorius and Kagiso Rabada, leading to a dramatic collapse.
