The countdown to another blockbuster Indian Premier League (IPL) season has already begun, and the next edition has kicked off in its familiar summer window. IPL 2026 will begin on March 26 and end on May 31, promising another long and action-packed ride for the fans.
The upcoming IPL 2026 will come on the heels of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. The players will get barely three weeks’ break from international action before they have to focus on franchise commitments.
IPL 2026 dates confirmed as the tournament will clash with PSL 2026
The IPL 2026 schedule will bring another challenge for foreign stars. For the second consecutive year, IPL will compete with Pakistan Super League (PSL). The upcoming PSL 2026 is scheduled to be held from March 26 to May 3.

This conflict is likely to cause problems to foreign players. As per Cricbuzz report, the schedule update for the upcoming season was shared by IPL CEO Hemang Amin during a briefing held ahead of the mini auction.
As per long-standing IPL tradition, the opening match is usually played in the home city of the defending champion.
RCB’s title defense may not start on home ground as M Chinnaswamy Stadium faces investigation
If that pattern is followed again, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will begin their title defense in the upcoming IPL 2026 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, but its availability is still not confirmed.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has received only conditional approval from the state government to host IPL matches at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium can host matches only if it meets strict safety and security measures.
This comes after the tragic stampede that took place during the celebrations of RCB’s maiden IPL trophy win on June 4, in which at least 11 people lost their lives. Since that incident, the Karnataka government has been cautious in giving full approval for large-scale cricket events at the stadium.

IPL auction 2026 promises high drama in Abu Dhabi
Meanwhile, all the 10 IPL teams have already entered the crucial phase of preparation. After finalizing their retained and released players last month, the franchises are now focusing on the IPL Auction 2026 to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE on December 16.
369 players have been shortlisted in the auction, out of which only 77 spots are left and 31 spots are reserved for foreign cricketers. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are entering the IPL auction 2026 with 13 vacancies. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have ten spots to fill.
On the other hand, KKR has a huge purse of Rs 64.30 crore, followed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with Rs 43.40 crore available to build their squad for the upcoming IPL 2026.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are at the third position with Rs 25.50 crore, followed by Lucknow Super Giants (Rs 22.95 crore), Delhi Capitals (Rs 21.80 crore), Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rs 16.40 crore), Rajasthan Royals (Rs 16.05 crore), Gujarat Titans (Rs 12.90 crore), Punjab Kings (Rs 11.50 crore), and Mumbai Indians (INR). 2.75 crores).
