Yashasvi Jaiswal is widely seen as one of India’s most talented young batsmen, yet his journey in white-ball cricket has not been as easy as his rise in Tests. While Yashasvi Jaiswal has firmly established himself in the longest format of the game, he has not been able to establish himself in India’s ODI and T20I teams despite stepping up every now and then.

The left-handed batsman made his ODI debut in February this year and has scored 171 runs in just four matches, including a brilliant unbeaten century against South Africa recently. His T20I numbers since his debut in 2023 have been equally impressive.

In 22 innings, he has scored 723 runs at a tremendous strike rate of 164.31 with the help of one century and five half-centuries. But India’s white-ball setup is brimming with top-order talent. With so many strong options available, Jaiswal has often been forced to spend time on the sidelines.

Yashasvi Jaiswal wants to live his T20 World Cup dream

Currently, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill are opening for India in T20Is, pushing Sanju Samson into the middle order. The competition is so intense that even Samson, who scored three centuries as an opening batsman, had to step down when Gill returned to the T20I team as vice-captain.

Despite this, the 23-year-old has his sights set on the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February-March. However, Jaiswal is ready to fight for his place, continue to improve and take advantage of the opportunity whenever he gets it. Even this young player hopes to represent India continuously in all formats.

Yashasvi Jaiswal said at the Agenda Aaj Tak Summit, “My dream is to play the T20 World Cup, but I try to focus on my game and will wait for my time.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal ready to lead as Rajasthan Royals look for new captain

If opportunity arises, he is also ready to take leadership responsibilities in future. Interestingly, leadership may become a real possibility sooner than expected.

Jaiswal’s IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals, is currently looking for a new captain after Sanju Samson’s blockbuster trade with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.

Jaiswal is likely to be one of the contenders. However, the Royals also have experienced names like Ravindra Jadeja, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel who are ahead of them in the race for RR captaincy. He further stressed, “Yes, if I get a chance I would like to lead India.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal surprised fans by calling Rohit Sharma ‘Dhurandhar’ of cricket.

During the segment, Jaiswal created a funny moment when he compared big cricket stars to popular film characters. He linked former India captain Rohit Sharma to Ranveer Singh’s character in the latest film Dhurandhar.

This made everyone smile, as they spoke warmly about Rohit and hinted that behind Rohit’s calm and friendly nature lies strong presence, strength and personality. Jaiswal was given a list of film titles and asked to match each with an Indian cricketer.

As soon as he heard Dhurandhar’s words, he immediately thought of Rohit. The next film was named Baahubali and he starred Yuzvendra Chahal.
