His innings was a mix of touch and timing, ensuring that the Scorchers never lost grip at the required rate, while also protecting their inexperienced middle order from scoreboard pressure.

Mooney formed three important partnerships in pursuit of this overall goal:

  • Katie Mack (10 off 13) set the stage with 42 runs for the first wicket
  • 67 runs for the second wicket with Maddy Darke (24 off 22), stability after the start of the innings
  • Added 37 runs for the third wicket with captain Sophie Devine (13 off 14), leading to the chase in the death overs

Georgia Redmayne leads Brisbane Heat effort but winless season ends tragically

Earlier, Brisbane Heat scored 164/7, a competitive total built around Georgia Redmayne’s brilliant 57 off 47 balls. Redmayne found the pace in the middle overs, but regular wickets prevented the Heat from accelerating into the 170-180 region required to challenge the strong Scorchers top order.

Despite useful cameos, the Heat’s inability to convert starts once again cost them dearly – a recurring theme in a campaign that ends without a win. Their bowling attack showed early discipline but they had no answer to Mooney’s measured attack.
