Rising star of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Urvil Patel gave another surprise performance in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) Elite 2025He scored a brilliant century in 31 balls and led Gujarat to a spectacular eight-wicket victory over Services in Hyderabad. The 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, already regarded as one of India’s most destructive T20 talents, displayed exceptional power-hitting and impeccable timing, scoring an unbeaten 119 off just 37 balls.

Urvil Patel illuminated Hyderabad by scoring 119* runs in 37 balls.

Chasing the target of 183 runs, Urvil started a continuous attack from the very first over. His innings included 10 sixes and 12 fours, which turned a competitive target into a mismatched one. His strike rate reached heights never seen before in domestic T20 cricket as he decimated the Services bowling attack with his audacious strikes.

The right-handed batsman’s bat swing, fearless approach and ability to clear the ropes at will took Services by surprise, effectively sealing the chase in the first half of the innings.

Gujarat won with 45 balls remaining

Gujarat’s chase at the Gymkhana Ground started with fireworks as Urvil and opening partner Arya Desai stitched a stormy partnership of 174 runs in just 11.4 overs. Desai played a stormy innings of 60 runs in 35 balls, which included six fours and three sixes and completely completed the Urvil attack.

Even after losing two early wickets, Gujarat’s run chase remained miles ahead of the asking rate thanks to Urvil’s brutality. He ensured there were no obstacles in the closing stages as Gujarat crossed the finish line in just 12.3 overs, one of the most lopsided chases of the season so far.

The win not only confirmed Gujarat’s batting depth but also highlighted Urvil’s ability to dominate high-pressure chases.

India’s fastest T20 centurion extended his record streak

Urvil’s latest century adds to an extraordinary list of achievements. The Gujarat captain already holds the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian – his century in 28 balls against Tripura last season, which is the second fastest century in global T20 history. After this, he established himself as an expert in ultra-fast centuries by scoring a century in 36 balls in the same competition.

This new century in 31 balls is his third T20 century within two domestic seasons, making him among the elite players with multiple centuries in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His consistency in playing explosive innings confirms that his previous heroics were not one-off performances but a pattern of sustained dominance.
