In tense events during Sri Lanka‘S ongoing ODI tour Of Pakistan, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Islamabad has instructed its players to continue with the series despite several members of the team expressing their desire to return home following the suicide blast in Islamabad on Wednesday that killed 12 people. The incident, which occurred just a short distance from Rawalpindi, the venue of the ODI series, sparked immediate security concerns within the tour camp.
Sri Lankan players expressed fear for safety after bombing in Pakistan
According to reports, at least eight Sri Lankan players informed the team management on Thursday morning that they want to leave Pakistan immediately, hours before the second ODI in Rawalpindi. The bombing in Islamabad, which is part of the twin cities region adjacent to Rawalpindi, raised concerns within the team, prompting several players to pull out of the tour early.
SLC confirmed the development in an official statement, stating that the players’ concerns were recognized as legitimate, but stressed that the board was working closely with it. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) And local officials will reinforce safety protocols.
“Sri Lanka Cricket was informed by the team management this morning that several members of the national team currently touring Pakistan have requested to return home citing security concerns. SLC immediately communicated with the players and assured them that all such concerns are being addressed in close coordination with the PCB and the relevant authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of each member of the touring party.” SLC said in a media release.
Lanka Board has threatened action if players do not follow protocols
Despite the concerns raised, SLC has instructed all players, support staff and management personnel to remain in Pakistan and the tour to continue as planned. The board stressed that it has full confidence in the security arrangements provided and is hopeful that the tour will proceed without any disruption.
However, the statement also made it clear that any player who chooses to go against the instruction may face consequences. The SLC warned that such decisions would trigger a “formal review” after the tour, potentially resulting in disciplinary action.
“If any player or member of the touring party decides to return to Sri Lanka despite instructions, Sri Lanka Cricket will immediately send replacements to ensure that the tour continues without interruption. A formal review will be conducted to assess their actions, and an appropriate decision will be taken at the conclusion of the review.” SLC added.
PCB announces revised ODI schedule
Amid growing security concerns, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi Also announced adjustments in the one-day schedule. The remaining two matches of the three-match series, originally scheduled for November 13 and 15, have both been moved forward by a day. Now he will be in Rawalpindi on 14 and 16 November.
