Meghalaya cricketer Akash Kumar Chaudhary etched his name in the history books with one of the most explosive innings ever seen in first-class cricket at the CK Pithawala ground in Surat.

The 25-year-old batsman scored a stunning half-century off just 11 balls during the Ranji Trophy Plate Group match between Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh in Surat. With this incredible effort, Akash created a new world record for the fastest half-century in first-class cricket.

Coming towards the end of Meghalaya’s innings, Akash wasted no time in settling down. From the moment he took strike, he went on an all-out attack against the Arunachal bowlers. His innings was nothing short of incredible, as he hit eight consecutive sixes, including six sixes off six balls off Limmar Dabi.

Akash completed his half-century in just 11 balls, which is now an all-time record in first-class cricket. He remained unbeaten after scoring 50 runs on just 14 balls. His late fireworks not only provided Meghalaya with the perfect end to their innings, but also created history with his extraordinary power-hitting.

Akash broke the previous record of 12 balls set by England’s Wayne White for Leicestershire against Essex in 2012. Among Indian cricketers, the fastest half-century in first-class cricket was by Bandip Singh of Jammu and Kashmir, who achieved the feat in 15 balls.

By breaking the 13 year old world record, Akash has become the first player to hit eight sixes in a row.

Record breaking Ranji Trophy season continues, Akash Kumar defeats Arunachal Pradesh

Meanwhile, the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season has been full of records and surprises, especially in the Plate Group. Earlier, Bihar’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest ever Ranji player, while Goa’s Kashyap Bakle and Snehal Kauthankar stitched a historic 606-run partnership.

Now Akash’s explosive innings has added another unforgettable chapter to this wonderful season. Every shot of his was clean, timed with perfection and full of confidence. Arunachal’s bowlers did not know how to stop the attack as the ball was repeatedly missing into the stands.

Coming in to bat at number eight when the scoreboard already read 576/6, Akash wasted no time in making his mark. Within a few overs, the all-rounder played a fast and aggressive innings, taking Meghalaya’s total to 628/6 before deciding to declare the innings.

His explosive batting provided the perfect finishing touch to Meghalaya’s already strong position. But Akash’s work was not completed yet. With the new ball in hand, he struck early to take the first wicket for his team. Arunachal Pradesh now find themselves in serious trouble, trailing by 593 runs and struggling to find a way back into the game in Surat.
