Indian batsman Abhishek Sharma broke the record of Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and created a new world record in the shortest format of the game. When Abhishek crossed the 1000 run mark within a short time, history was made.

Abhishek Sharma scored a half-century in the MCG T20I and then had a good start during the two matches in Hobart and Carrara. India won the third T20 match chasing the target and then won the next game batting first as their bowlers performed brilliantly.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav suffered another defeat in the toss in the fifth T20 match in Brisbane. After losing the toss, Mitchell Marsh put the Indians in to bat first, and Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill came in the middle until play was interrupted due to rain.

The record of scoring fastest 1000 runs is in the name of Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek created history by crossing the 1000-run mark in T20 Internationals and created a world record for facing the fastest balls. He achieved this feat during the 5th T20I against Australia and broke the previous record of Australian batsman Tim David.

David reached the 1000-run mark within 569 balls. He reached this milestone during a stormy innings of 74 runs in just 38 balls at the Hobart Stadium. The Indian T20I captain is the second Indian in the list to achieve the feat in just 573 balls.

However, it is also worth noting that Abhishek Sharma was dropped twice during his innings at the Gabba. He was dropped once before reaching the 1000-run mark and then again after crossing the milestone.

List of cricketers who scored fastest 1000 T20I runs

Abhishek Sharma now tops this list, as he achieved this feat in just 528 balls. He is followed by Suryakumar Yadav, who is second in the list, and New Zealand batsman Finn Allen, who is third in the list with only 611 balls.

When it comes to the total number of balls faced by a player in the format, Tim David is now sixth on the list with 614 balls, as this record includes innings in both Australia and Singapore. Abhishek has a great record of completing 1000 T20I runs with a strike rate of around 190.

He has two centuries to his name in his short T20 career and since his debut, he is the leading run-scorer for India in T20. He ideally replaces Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Indian T20I setup.

Abhishek Sharma failed to break Virat Kohli’s T20 record

Abhishek took 28 innings in his T20 career to reach the 1000-run mark and narrowly missed Virat Kohli’s former record for India. Kohli had reached this milestone in just 27 innings in his career.

However, Abhishek has played 1 match less than Virat Kohli, who had played 29 matches when the gap was to be 1000 runs.

Indian batsmen Sanju Samson and Tilak Verma are also close to their 1000-run mark with 995 and 991 runs respectively and for Tilak, he can cross the milestone only in the 5th T20I against Australia.
