BCCI will give cash prize of Rs 51 crore to the team – Devjit Saikia

Harmanpreet Kaur’s team entered the elite list along with Australia (7), England (4) and New Zealand (1). The Women in Blue suffered heartbreaking defeats in the 2005 and 2017 finals.

Devjit Saikia also announced that the board will give away ₹51 crore cash prize. The award will be distributed among the players, support staff and national selectors in recognition of India’s maiden Women’s ODI World Cup title.

“As a token of appreciation, the BCCI will reward the Indian women’s cricket team with a cash prize of Rs 51 crore for winning the World Cup. This includes all players, support staff and the national selection committee,” Saikia said.

ICC announces substantial increase in prize money

ICC had earlier announced a substantial increase in the prize money. ICC President Jay Shah confirmed that the champions will take home US$4.48 million (approximately ₹42 crore), a huge jump from the US$1.32 million paid to Australia in 2022. The 2023 male winners earned US$4 million.

Deepti Sharma was named Player of the Tournament for her consistent all-round impact, being among the top performers with both bat and ball. Shafali Verma, who scored 87 runs and took two important wickets in the final, received the Player of the Match award.

South Africa’s captain Laura Wolvaardt ended the tournament as the leading run-scorer. The right-handed batsman scored 571 runs at an impressive average of 71.38 and a strike rate of 98.79, which included two centuries and three half-centuries.
