South African women’s team captain Laura Wolvaardt is facing the heat of a high-pressure World Cup final on Indian soil, just like Pat Cummins had to face during the 2023 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup. Hence, the South African captain has also adopted the same thought process.

India women have qualified for the Women’s World Cup final against South African Women. This is their third entry into the World Cup final, while the first for the Protea Women, who were also runners-up in the last T20 World Cup final.

This Women’s World Cup Final is the next ICC final to be played on Indian soil after the 2023 ICC Men’s World Cup Final, which also featured an Indian side.

Laura Wolvaardt reiterates Pat Cummins’ approach to Women’s World Cup final

There is curiosity about the women cricketers of the Indian team who will face the Proteas for their third World Cup final. Harmanpreet Kaur led them in the World Cup for the first time.

Proteas captain Laura Wolvaardt is facing a tough challenge against the Indian women’s team. In the pre-match press release, Laura Wolvaardt displayed a much Pat Cummins-like attitude while addressing the Indian crowd.

When Laura Wolvaardt was asked how her team would deal with the crowd supporting the home team, she said, “Hopefully, we will win. I think that will silence the Indian fans.”

“There’s nothing more satisfying than hearing a big crowd go silent,” Cummins said during a pre-World Cup final press release.

When Pat Cummins addressed the press ahead of the India vs Australia ICC World Cup final in 2023, he also ignored the Indian fans and presented them with a big challenge.

“I think you have to accept it. The crowd will obviously be one-sided, but there’s nothing more satisfying than hearing a big crowd go silent at a game and that’s the goal for us tomorrow.”

Pat Cummins had said, “Yes, you have to embrace every part of it, every part of the final – even in the lead-up, there will be noise and more people and interest, and you can’t get overwhelmed.”

“You have to be ready for it, you have to love it and just know that whatever happens is OK, but you want to end the day with no regrets,” he said.

ICC announces big prize money for Women’s World Cup

Both teams have reached the finals of the Women’s World Cup. Earlier this year, the ICC announced a huge increase in the prize money for the ICC Women’s World Cup, which has been increased to approximately $13.88 million (INR 123 crore approx).

This would mark a 297 percent increase from the previous Women’s World Cup, while it also marked an increase from the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which was decided at $10 million. The runner-up, on the other hand, will receive half the winning amount.
