West Indies National Cricket Team’s 30-year-old fast bowling all-rounder Romario Shepherd has created history with his bowling performance in the third T20 match against Bangladesh National Cricket Team.
The 3rd T20 match between West Indies and Bangladesh was held on Friday, 31 October at the Bir Shrestho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram.
Romario Shepherd becomes second West Indies player to take a hat-trick in men’s T20I
Over the years, West Indies has produced some great T20 cricketers, including batsmen, bowlers and all-rounders who fall into the ‘greatest of all time’ category.
However, those T20 cricketers have not always served the West Indies national cricket team for long wearing the maroon jersey in T20 International matches.
Many Caribbean bowlers have taken T20 hat-tricks, but in T20 Internationals, Jason Holder was the only West Indies bowler to take a hat-trick for a long time. He achieved a hat-trick against England in 2022.
However, now Jason Holder has got a company in the form of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star all-rounder Romario Shepherd, who has created history by taking a brilliant hat-trick against Bangladesh. He dismissed Nurul Hasan, Tanjeed Hasan and Shoriful Islam to achieve this feat.
After being invited to bowl first in the match, the West Indies bowling unit did a very good job, with Shepherd being the chief architect. He got his first wicket by dismissing Nurul Hasan for 1 run on the sixth ball of the 17th over.
Then, he returned to bowl the 20th over and on the very first ball, he dismissed Tanjeed Hasan for 89 runs. On the very next ball of the over, he completed his hat-trick by dismissing Shoriful Islam for a golden duck.

Speaking during the mid-innings break, Shepherd said he had no idea he was on a hat-trick until he achieved the historic feat. He elaborated:
“I didn’t really know I was on a hat-trick until I got the hat-trick, my focus was more on finishing the innings. Jason came out and told me it was a hat-trick and asked me to take four wickets in four balls.
(On taking a hat-trick by uprooting a batsman’s stumps) When you are a young fast bowler, you see others knocking down stumps and you dream of doing the same. It feels good to finally join that club. It’s a target to chase, but we don’t know how cricket goes, last time we defended 150, so you never know. Hopefully, we can change things this time, with the team batting first. Has been.”
