Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devjit Saikia has given the latest update on the Asia Cup 2025 trophy and revealed when it will be formally handed over to the Indian team.
Devjit Saikia said that they are hoping to receive the Asia Cup 2025 trophy “within a day or two” and if that does not happen, the matter will be taken to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Yes, we are a little unhappy with the way we were not given the trophy – BCCI Secretary
Suryakumar Yadav-led India eliminated Salman Aga-led Pakistan in three consecutive matches in the Asia Cup 2025, including a thrilling final victory to clinch the championship.
India showed tremendous dominance in the Asia Cup 2025 and despite not playing perfect cricket, they brutally thrashed the Pakistanis and showed them their place in world cricket.
After defeating Pakistan in the final and winning the Asia Cup 2025, India refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who is the PCB chairman and ACC president. The reason for this was his disgusting comment on India.
Mohsin Naqvi was humiliated in front of the whole world and had to face massive jeers from the crowd after the Asia Cup final. After being embarrassed, he stole India’s trophy and ran away with it. Furthermore, he has kept the Asia Cup trophy for himself and has not returned it to India saying that an Indian player must receive it in person in a proper ceremony.
A month has passed since the Asia Cup ended and India has still not received the trophy. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia admitted that he was unhappy with the way things had turned out.
“Yes, we are a little unhappy with the way we have not been given the trophy even after a month,” BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia told PTI in a video.
“We are taking the matter forward. We had written a letter to the ACC chairman about 10 days ago, but there has been no change in his stand.”
“They are still keeping the trophy with them, but we hope it will reach the BCCI office in Mumbai within a day or two.”
On behalf of BCCI, we are fully prepared to deal with this matter – Devjit Saikia
Devjit Saikia further said that they are fully prepared to deal with the matter and if they do not get the trophy then they will take the matter to the ICC meeting in Dubai, which will start from November 4.
Saikia said, “On behalf of the BCCI, we are fully prepared to deal with this matter and I can assure the people of India that the trophy will return to India – only the timeline is not fixed. One day, it will come.”
“We have won all the matches against Pakistan and won the trophy. We are the champions. Everything is on record – only the trophy is missing. I hope good understanding prevails.”
Therefore, sessions can be swapped – Devjit Saikia
Talking about the second Test match of the series between India and South Africa in Guwahati, possibly ahead of the tea break before lunch, Devjit Saikia said:
“The process is ongoing as sunrise and sunset occur earlier in the eastern part of the country. To accommodate six hours of play per day, some changes in timings are necessary. If the match start time is brought forward, it may not align with the normal lunch time.
“So, the sessions can be swapped. I don’t think it will be a big issue, but the process is still going on and is yet to be finalised.”
