Former Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw has opened his account for his new team Maharashtra in some style as he scored his first century in Ranji Trophy since February 2024 in the second game of the season for the new team.

Prithvi Shaw’s career suffered a major setback after he was dropped from the Mumbai domestic team for the Ranji Trophy last season, as his lack of fitness and discipline was cited within the team. Anyway, Shaw was out of rhythm for a long time and was failing to score runs for the team.

His last innings for Mumbai was during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final in December 2024. He made his Ranji Trophy debut as a 17-year-old young cricketer in 2016 and scored 4500 first-class runs for Mumbai.

The pressure on Ajit Agarkar has increased after many players came into form before the South Africa Test.

As the South Africa Test series is approaching, many Indian players have made a strong case for a place in Team India after making a spectacular comeback in the Ranji Trophy. Agarkar’s task has become difficult because players like Rajat Patidar and Ayush Badoni have been performing so well since the Duleep Trophy.

Ishan Kishan, Rinku Singh and Ruturaj Gaikwad have also been showing their potential in the longer format with the bat, scoring several centuries in the early rounds of the Ranji Trophy. While some like Patidar have been selected for India A, others have been ignored so far.
