Team India vice-captain Shreyas Iyer took a brilliant catch to dismiss Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey during the third and final ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on Saturday, October 25. However, the 30-year-old player got injured while completing the catch and had to leave the field.
Team India captain Shubman Gill once again lost the toss. Australian captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and decided to bat first. The home team made just one change after clinching the series 2-0. Meanwhile, the visiting team made two changes in the playing eleven and recalled Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna.
India attacked regularly as Australia’s batsmen failed to convert starts into big scores
Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head gave a solid start by adding 50 runs in 45 balls. However, Mohammed Siraj broke the stand by dismissing Head in the final over of the powerplay. Head had to go to the dressing room after scoring 29 runs in 25 balls.
Axar Patel made an impact in his second over and dismissed Marsh for 41, which included five fours and a six. After this, Matthew Short and Matt Renshaw added 36 runs for the third wicket.
Washington Sundar dismissed Short for 30 off 41 balls, which included two fours. Due to this wicket, Australia’s score became 124/3 after 22.3 overs, which increased the pressure on the home team.

Alex Carey and Matt Renshaw added 59 runs for the fourth wicket. Harshit Rana broke this partnership by dismissing Carey on the fourth ball of the 34th over. Carey tried to make an aggressive shot but mistimed it.
Shreyas Iyer ran fast from backward point and took the catch with two hands despite the ball slipping slightly. Iyer fell awkwardly and injured his left hip, requiring immediate attention from the physio before being carted off the field. Carey was out after scoring 24 runs in 37 balls including one four.
