Bengaluru. Sachin Tendulkar paid tribute to former Indian fast bowler and his teammate David Johnson, calling him a person who was ‘vivacious’. The God of Cricket said that he ‘never accepted defeat on the field’. Johnson died on Thursday. 52-year-old Johnson, who played two Tests for India in 1996, died after falling from the fourth floor balcony of his apartment here. Local police have said that investigation is underway to find out whether it was a case of suicide.
Sachin Tendulkar wrote on X, ‘Deeply saddened by the demise of my former teammate David Johnson. He was lively and never gave up on the field. My condolences are with his friends and family. Former India bowlers and Johnson’s state teammates Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumble also paid tribute to him on social media. Prasad wrote, ‘I am shocked and saddened to hear the news of David Johnson’s demise. Heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. om Shanti.’
Anil Kumble said, ‘I am saddened to hear the news of the demise of my cricket partner David Johnson. Heartfelt condolences to his family. Gone too soon ‘Benny’!’ Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir wrote, ‘I am saddened by the demise of David Johnson. May God give strength to his family and loved ones. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jai Shah also paid tribute to Johnson. He wrote, ‘Deepest condolences to the family and friends of our former Indian fast bowler David Johnson. His contribution to the game will always be remembered.
