After a poor performance with the bat in the first ODI of the ongoing three-match series against Australia, Rohit Sharma made a spectacular comeback during the second ODI on Thursday (October 23).
The former India captain was out for just 8 runs in the first ODI. He was out due to extra bounce on the spicy Perth pitch.
Rohit was struggling in the beginning
Josh Hazlewood bowled a ball which went away and Rohit Sharma edged it to Matt Renshaw at second slip.
His dismissal cost India dearly as they could not really recover with the bat and lost the match by 7 wickets.
India managed to score a modest score of 136/9 in 26 overs, but Australia achieved the target in 22 overs and took the lead in the series.

Rohit Sharma’s return
After failure in the series opener, Rohit scored a fighting half-century in the second ODI. After being invited to bat first, India got off to a bad start and were in trouble again. Captain Shubman Gill once again failed to lead from the front and was out after scoring 9 runs in the 7th over off the bowling of Xavier Bartlett.
In the same over, Bartlett also dismissed Virat Kohli for a duck on the second ball, reducing India’s score to 17/2. After this, Rohit and Shreyas Iyer steadied the ship for the Men in Blue. He mixed caution with aggression to revive the innings and lead India to a competitive score.
This partnership finally broke in the 30th over when Mitchell Starc dismissed Rohit Sharma. It was a short ball on leg and Rohit decided to play the pull shot. He made good contact with the ball but could not get the right placement. He delivered the ball straight to the fielder.
As soon as Rohit was out, Starc had an interesting celebration. The Australian fast bowler made fun of the Indian star while celebrating the big wicket.
