Australian series important for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill
The upcoming Australian series is important for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli regarding their ODI future. It was reported that his selection in the squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup may depend on his performance during the series.
This will also be Shubman Gill’s first match as ODI captain. He was appointed ODI captain after a successful series of Test matches against England and West Indies. Gill will be hoping to replicate his leadership impact in the white-ball format while creating the environment for his captaincy style.
This series will allow Gill to assess his team, understand the roles of players and gauge reactions in different match situations. With stars like Kohli and Rohit in the lineup, Gill will also gain valuable insight into the management and leadership of the star-studded team.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma on the verge of breaking records
Virat Kohli is just one century away from breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most international centuries in a single format. If he scores during the upcoming ODI series against Australia, it will be his 52nd ODI century, surpassing Tendulkar’s tally of 51 Test centuries.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is inching closer to a historic milestone of his own. The 38-year-old needs only 10 more runs to become the first Indian to score 1,000 runs against Australia on Australian soil.
Rohit has scored 990 runs in 19 innings at an average of 58.23, including four centuries and two half-centuries, a feat no other Indian batsman has achieved in Australia. Virat needs it 198 runs to reach the same milestone.
