After some unrelated form, he moved to Vidarbha last season, where he played an important role in helping the team achieve the Ranji Trophy title. His strong domestic form earned him an India call-up, as he excelled with bat not only in the Red-Ball tournament but also in the White-Ball Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The move to appear for Karnataka came a few weeks later after India’s chief selector, Ajit Agrakar, effectively attracted the curtain on Nair’s test career.

Ajit Agarkar rejected any possibility of Karun Nair’s return

Karun Nair, who was assigned several opportunities to score against the opposition, against whom he scored amazing triple-series, failed to be promising with the bat, as he scored the lowest run as a batsman in the series, with just a half-century.

Citing his poor appearance, BCCI chief selector Ajit Aggarkar felt that it was enough to not give him another chance in the home series against the West Indies. In particular, the availability of a broad pool of small cricketers led development.

“We expect more than Karun Nair in England. It may not be just about one innings. Devdutt Padikkal gives us more options. We want to give every player at least 15-20 opportunities, but every time it is not possible,” Egkar said at a press conference recently, effectively ended any realistic hopes of a test for Nayar.
