Get away from clinical South Africa mark:
After heavy losses in their first match of the World Cup, South Africa bounced back into style as they gave a clinical all-round-round performance against New Zealand. Both batsmen and bowlers enjoyed an impressive outing to give strength to their team for an important win.
New Zealand captain Sophie Divine opted to bat first on a good batting pitch. However, the New Zealand batsmen could not capitalize on the condition as their team was out for 231 runs. Marizain Cupp gave South Africa a solid start by rejecting Suji Bates for a duck on the first delivery of the match.
Georgia Plimer (31 runs 68) and Amelia Kerr (23 in 42) stabilized the ship, but could not score at a healthy rate as New Zealand chewed 48 dot balls in Powerplay. Divine and Brook Holiday raised the Antte by adding 86 runs out of 75 balls for the fourth wicket.
Kiwi collapsed batting
New Zealand was at 187/4 in the 39th over when Holiday left for 45 runs. He was lucky to post a large total, but Holiday’s dismissal triggers a collapse as New Zealand lost seven wickets for 44 runs in 59 balls.
Divine scored 85 runs, but did not put his team on a big score. For South Africa, left -arm spinner Nonkuleko Mlaba took an impressive outing with 4 wickets.
In response, South Africa chased the total within 41 overs for a luxurious century from Tazmin Brits. The initial batsman scored 101 off just 89 balls. After leaving for just 14 runs, Captain Laura Volvardt, Brits and Luuse dropped New Zealand from the match and scored 159 runs for the second wicket.
The partnership broke when Lee Tahuhu cast the Brites. The choice of kupp and anake bosch also left for quick succession, but Luus stopped to the end, scoring an unbeaten 83 to take his team home.
