Former World Cup winner Australian captain Aaron Finch has predicted that the India vs Australia ODI series will be a major battle between the two veterans, in which the domestic side won the visitors by a margin of 2–1.
He has also stated that Shubman Gill also has immense support from senior professionals Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, which is part of the team. India has named a strong 15-member squad for the three-match ODI ODI series with Australians.
Two legends of the Indian team returned to play the Indian ODI XI for the first time after the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. He will be seen in action in the first ODI in Perth on 19 October.
Aaron Finch has predicted the Battle of Executive India vs Australia
Aaron Finch was part of the ICC World Cup 2015 and ICC T20 World Cup 2021, which was won by Australia. He has now shared his views on the Indian team and the upcoming ODI series.
“It would be a great series,” Finch told ICC Digital from Colombo as part of her comments in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
He said, “This is always against India, and I think he is coming back in Virat, he feels the best against Australia. It always takes a great battle when you look at it on paper, as it matches it very equally, but I would say that Australia (series win) 2–1,” he announced.
He said, “Not confidently, however, as India is a great side and it would just be a great range to see,” he said.
Aaron Finch praised Shubman Gill
Former Australian, Aaron Finch, is also interested in seeing how the new Indian captain, Shubman Gill, is on rent in his first ODI series. Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain of the Indian ODI, which is the place of former captain Rohit Sharma.
“Shubman has already shown that he is a good leader in T20 cricket and Test cricket, so I am sure it will not be separated,” Finch saw it.
Aaron Finch said in high praise to Indian youth, “He is a great player, especially in the white-ball format, and the way he captained against England in the Test series, he has just a big tick in his box to take the next step and takes the Indian leadership through correctly (three formats).”
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s experience can learn a great learn for Gill in Australia
Aaron Finch quoted that when Shubman Gill took over as the captain of the Indian test side in England, he did not have many players who could give him insight and backup. However, this time, the youth will have the choice of experienced heads as veterans Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and finally, vice-captain Shreyas Iyer.
“I think when you watch that England Test series, he (Gill) did not have many other options that he could change for advice, perhaps when he was out on the ground, but he himself did a wonderful job.”
“But I think there will be a real peace for them only with those (Rohit and Kohli), as it is the ability to throw ideas, both and out of the region that how you want the team that the team is moving forward, because they are such a large part of the team for a long time.”
