The Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI), Saturday, October 4, was surprised by many people by handing over important opportunities to Shreyas Iyer before Australia Tour. Amid reports of taking a break from Test cricket, Shreyas Iyer, BCCI has shown full confidence in its leadership skills.
In fact, BCCI on Saturday announced ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming bilateral series in Australia. The India National cricket team is scheduled to play three ODIs and five T20Is against Australia in October-November. He has retained the leadership for T20I.

But BCCI shocked Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain of India and surprised the cricket community as Shubman Gill was appointed as the new captain before the much awaited Australia tour. Not only this, the Indian Selection Committee appointed Shreyas Iyer as the new ODI vice-captain of India.

Although both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are part of the ODI squad, Ravindra Jadeja did not find a place for the much awaited Australia tour in the 15-member squad. On the other hand, Mohammad Siraj returned to the ODI team, finally played in the format in August 2024.
Additionally, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Dhruv Jurlel have been handed over the women’s ODI call-ups as Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant are out of the upcoming Australia tour. In particular, Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for ODI after a busy schedule, but he was named in the T20I squad for the Australia Tour.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer has been elevated as the vice-captain of India in ODI cricket. The decision was attended by the newly appointed ODI captain, Shubman Gill in the selection meeting. Iyer got a role after his impressive captaincy in IPL and after domestic cricket in white-ball cricket.
Although Iyer has never captained men in blue in OD cricket, he is quietly creating a reputation as one of the most successful leaders in modern cricket. His record in the domestic tournament and IPL speaks for himself. Iyer has a rare achievement in the IPL.

The stylish right-handed batsman is the only captain to guide the three different franchise-Deley Capital, Kolkata Knight Riders, and the Punjab Kings-IPL final. KKR won IPL 2024 under the captaincy of Mumbaikar. He has been one of the most consistent run-scores in India at ODI.
His domestic captaincy record is equally impressive. In List A Cricket, he won 29 out of 42 games as a skipper. Even Iyer led Mumbai for a memorable Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title last year.
