India National Cricket Team Test Captain Shubman Gill has excavated former red-ball captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli on the pitch strategy of the house.
Shubman Gill came out of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s shadow and said that they do not want to play the test match of the house season on the pitches where the game ends in two to three days.
We have the best four spinners – Shubman Gill
Over the years, India has played home test matches under extreme conditions, where spinners have shown total dominance. Rank Turner has ended the matches within two to three days.
Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli supported the decision to prepare spin-friendly pitches for the home test season, allowing Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Exer to like it.
In contrast, Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, and Rohit Sharma’s choice were badly impressed with the rank turner as their performance was reduced and their test batting average decreased.
Meanwhile, India has employed a new strategy after the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and refusing to follow the rank turner strategy led by Shubman Gill.
In a conversation on Jiohotstar, Shubman Gill clearly stated that they do not want to play test matches for the last 2-3 days and fully know about the quality of Indian spinners, who can do good in any kind of surface.
“We don’t want to win in 2-3 days. We know we have the best four spinners- Kuldeep, Jadeja, Axer and Vashi. Any team coming to India knows two challenges: spin and reverse swing. We will test the protest in both areas, but our focus is good cricket,” Gill said.
Ever since we are playing on Turner, it’s been a long time – Shubman Gill
India’s spin-friendly pitches strategy returned for the first time in decades in 2024 as an enthusiastic New Zealand side recorded a historic 3–0 whitewash, facing Rohit Sharma & Company.
Talking about the defeat of that series, Shubman Gill said that he lost as New Zealand prepared himself for rank turner by playing a series in Sri Lanka before the matches against India.
“It’s been a long time since we are playing on Turner. Obviously, other teams also know what we are good and what we need to do. On such wickets, if a spinner bowled continuously at a speed of 90-95 kilometers per hour, any batsman struggles in the world.
India deposes a good pitch for India vs. West Indies 1 Test
The India National Cricket Team is currently involved in the first test of the series against the West Indies National Cricket Team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
For the series opener, India has deployed a good pitch. This is a red-soil surface that quickly offered pacers to swing and later some reverse swing. In addition, spinners helped well from the surface.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill further stated that he mainly focuses on winning every series that they play instead of looking at the big picture – the ICC World Test Championship Final.
“We talk more about winning every series than WTC. But yes, if such a strong team is not worthy, it would be disappointing,” Gill said.
