The first domestic series of the West Indies came against Australia in the WTC 2025-27 cycle, and they were completely destroyed in all three matches and faced a whitewash.

Meanwhile, for the high-profile series against India, the Roston Chase-led side recalled Tagenarine Chandpall and Alik Athanaz and handed over a young woman call-up to spinner Khari Pierre.

Overall, the Cricket West Indies Selection Committee has made three changes from the squad that closes the horns with the Australians. The players who have been dropped are Crrigory Brathwaite, Casey Katy, Micile Louis and Johan.

They are hoping that the presence of chandpall and Athanaz will serve as a major boost for the batting unit, and spinner Pierre will promote the bowling unit.

Alzari Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, and the Zeden seal squads have other prominent names, but a player who is remembering the series is Goodkesh fat, who has been rested to keep him fresh for the upcoming limited overs action.

Meanwhile, the Caribbean players will leave for India on 22 September and are set to enter Ahmedabad on 24 September before starting their training.

Playing in the subcontinent always presents a challenge – Daren Sammy

In an official statement issued by CWI, head coach Daran Sammy said that playing in India would be challenging for him, but he is ready for it. He explained in detail:

“Playing in the subcontinent always presents a challenge and we have selected a team to be competitive in these situations. It will be our second series simultaneously as a test team, but we have already shown that we are once capable as a unit that we are once committed to our brand and team plans.”

“Tagnarin Chanderpall’s return is to help change our luck at the top of the order given to the conflicts recently, which is being linked to his strength and qualities against spin bowling. Khari is first included as our second spinner which we expect under useful conditions”

Meanwhile, the director of cricket, Miles Bascomomb, said that the squad has been chosen keeping in mind the power of the opposition. He said:

“Calculating and intentionally continues our approach to squad selection. We consider the opposition, sports status, and skill sets necessary to succeed against specific opposition. So the inclusion of players has not only been directed by their recent demonstrations, but it is also discovered that the best suits for giving positive results on these surfaces within our pool, which is against the quality of protest.”

“At the same time, we are conscious of continuity and depth in our test squad as we compete continuously in this World Testing Championship cycle.”
