31 -year -old Sri Lanka National Cricket Team Pesar Nuwan Thaushara gave his team an extraordinary start in their Asia Cup 2025 opening match on Saturday, 13 September.

This is actually a rivalry for fans – Charith Asananka
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Sri Lankan captain Charith Asanka reduced rivalry against Bangladesh. He said:
“This is actually a rivalry for fans, but as players for us, this is a good, challenging competition. We just want to give a good game to Bangladesh and other countries.
“Little, yes. But at the same time, this is just a game for us. We focus on following our basics and executing our plans correctly,” he said.
Cherith Asanka further said how Bangladesh defeated him in the recent home chain and insisted on following the basics and sticking to his plans.
“I think we all know that they are really good at this time. We lost a series against him in Sri Lanka, but even though we lost, we played good cricket. We just want to follow our basics, stick to our plans, and execute well,” he said.
He said, “Compared to other places in the UAE, Abu Dhabi is the best pitch for batsmen, especially once the ball gets bigger. The outfield is also very good, and I hope that every batsman enjoys playing here,” he said.
