Bethel did not look impressive in hundred 2025 and launched an ODI series against Proties with a score of 1, and the hosts suffered a crushed defeat in the match.

In the second match, Jacob Bethel gave much better performance and scored 58 runs taking a wicket, but the three Lions also lost the game that won a series of South Africa.

Meanwhile, in the third ODI, Bethel started well after coming out to bat at number 4 after a good start from the top-order batsmen.

He played a positive brand of cricket from the beginning and punished bad balls for registering one in fifty in 48 delivery. Jacob Bethel decided to accelerate further, and he completed his amazing century off 76 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes.

He played a cover-drive for four to reach his first ton in professional cricket and became the second youngest Centurion in ODIs for England after David Gover.

I probably should play a little more – Jacob Bethel

Bethel has not recently played a lot of domestic matches and has been included in only four matches – three in T20 blasts and one in the county championships – the start of the Test series against India in June and their inclusion for the fifth Test.

Bethel is facing criticism for this, and he addressed it while talking to Sky Sports before the third ODI. He said that he ignores the noise outside, but admitted that he should have played more cricket. Bethel said:

“There is a little noise, but I don’t hear it much. If I am honest, I probably should have played a little more when I was not playing in Test matches, but it’s something that I will take and I will learn from it.

“Even though I didn’t play much in that test series, I was around a lot of groups for it, and just to see a high-octane test chain as was incredible. I got a chance in the previous test and could not go there unfortunately and put it in a demonstration, but I loved it. [the summer]Playing for England is a dream true and hopefully I can do it for a long time to come.

Bethel said, “Now I see what I have and there is a lot of cricket, so that I can really be a little good for me.”
