Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is allegedly in advanced talks to join the Big Bash League (BBL) and can become the first Indian cricketer to play in the T20 tournament. After his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), Ashwin is now eligible to participate in the Foreign T20 League.
Ashwin has left an important impression in T20 cricket, including international sports, domestic tournaments and franchise leagues. The off-spinner has taken 317 wickets in 333 T20 matches, which includes four-verse haws in 26.94 on an average, with a respectable economy rate of 7.11.
Apart from bowling, he has scored 1,233 runs in 139 innings an average of 14.50 and a strike rate of 119.59, including a half -century. Tamil Nadu -born cricketer is a prominent player in T20 cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin in conversation with Cricket Australia to play BBL 2025-26
According to Cricbose, Ravichandran Ashwin can become the first Indian cricketer to play in Australia’s Big Bash League. The 38 -year -old retired from the IPL in August to include roles as a player and coach, which could detect opportunities in the foreign T20 league.
After his retirement, Ashwin has discussed with several cricket boards. Cricket Australia (CA) CEO Tod Greenberg has potentially confirmed the conversation about Ashwin in the upcoming BBL season, which begins on 15 December.
Although most of the teams have already finalized their squads and budgets, Cricket Australia is looking for ways to accommodate experienced spinners. Greenberg said that Ashwin’s presence would benefit Big Bash.
Greenberg told Cricbuz, “It will be great on so many levels to come here for BBL to achieve someone with Ashwin’s credibility. He is a champion cricketer who will bring a lot in Big Bash and our cricket summer.”
Ravichandran Ashwin was expected to play limited matches
Ravichandran Ashwin cannot participate in the entire tournament and is expected to attend a limited number of matches. The team he can represent has not been confirmed yet.
No Indian player has first competed in BBL. East India U-19 captain UNMUKT CHAND played in the league, but did so after going to USA and retired from Indian cricket.
In the past, legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh were reportedly interested in BBL, but it was not physical. Ashwin, who plays for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, has a chance to become the first Indian in the Australian T20 competition.
Ravichandran Ashwin may join the BBL franchise in Melbourne
The report further states that Ravichandran Ashwin may be involved in Melbourne-based suffrage such as Melbourne stars or Melbourne Renegades. The CA is searching for flexible arrangements to accommodate him, similar to the previous united contracts given to David Warner, which was reportedly paid per match.
Ashwin’s participation may open doors to consider the foreign T20 league after the IPL for other Indian players. The spinner can earn around Rs 45 lakh per match, if he plays half the season with more than 3 crores, as well as additional opportunity from brand endorsement.
In addition to playing, Ashwin is eager to use coaching roles in BBL and use experiences to further develop his skills. He can also facilitate in the upcoming ILT20 next year.
