The Afghanistan squad, UAE announced against Pakistan for T20 TRAI-series; 16 Asia Cup players selected

On Wednesday, August 27, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced the squad of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team for the upcoming T20I Tri-series in the United Arab Emirates.

The Afghanistan National Cricket Team is set to close the horns with the Pakistan National Cricket Team and the UAE National Cricket Team in a T20I Tri-Series ahead of the Asia Cup 2025.

The Asia Cup will be played in the United Arab Emirates from 9 to 28 September, and before that, Afghans will get a great preparation when they close the horns with UAE and Pakistan in T20I matches.

The three-series will begin with the match between Afghanistan and Pakistan on 29 August. Then, UAE vs Pakistan will be held on 30 August before taking action by 1 September, 2, 4 and 5 September. [Afghanistan vs UAE, Afghanistan vs Pakistan, Pakistan vs UAE, and Afghanistan vs UAE]All the matches of the series will be played in Sharjah, including the finals on 7 September.

Meanwhile, the ACB Selection Committee has named almost similar squads for the Tri-series and the Asia Cup 2025 with only a small change.

Star Paer Naveen-ul-Haq is not nominated for the T20-series in the T20-series despite being selected for the Asia Cup 2025 and is replaced by Abdullah Ahmedzai, one of the standbys for the Marki tournament.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim Zadran ICC will return to Afghan T20I to play XI for the first time after men’s T20 World Cup 2024. In addition, spinner M Ghazanfer is in line to make his T20I debut.

Rashid Khan will lead a star-stamped Afghanistan national cricket team, including Rahmamullah Gurbaz, Noor Ahmed, Mohammad Nabi, Karim Janat and Azmatullah Omrajai.

John Muni named the new fielding coach, Nirmalan Thanbalasingam appointed the new physiotherapist

Recently, ACB nominated former Ireland star John Muni as the new fielding coach and Australian Nirmalan Thanbalasingam as the new physiotherapist.

Afghanistan players are currently in Abu Dhabi, undergoing a training and preparation camp. John Muni and Nirmalan Thanbalasingam have also joined the camp.

John Muni is a former Ireland cricketer who played 91 international matches and held level 3, 2, and 1 coaching certificates from ECB and first worked with Afghanistan from 2018 to 2019.

Talking about Nirmalan Thanbalasingam, he worked with Desert Wipers (ILT20), Cricket NSW, Rangpur Riders (BPL), Montreal Tigers (GT20 – Canada), ICC World XI and Sydney Thunder (BBL).
