Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and was elected to bat first. The decision returned as they lost wickets at regular intervals and fell to 78/5.

However, with the arrival of Romario Shepherd in between, things completely changed for Guyana Amazon Warriors. The West Indies Powerhouse immediately switched to its beast mode and played an attacker brand of cricket from Ball One.

Romario Shepherd launched a cruel attack on St. Lucia Kings bowlers and formed a solid 102 -run partnership with Ifatikhar Ahmed in 42 balls.

The best 15th over of the Swashbuckling West Indies all -rounder was bowled by Ocene Thomas as he recorded 22 runs in the same legal delivery.

Thomas had a terrible time with the ball as he had to bowl the third delivery five times, which began with a no-ball. The sequence of the score read – 1NB, 1W, 7NB, 7NB, 6 – meaning 22 runs were overcome by just one legal delivery. Daren Sammy and David Visay were seen punishing Thomas.

Meanwhile, Shepherd completed his innings with an unbeaten 73 runs with 34 balls, 5 fours and 7 sixes to extend his team to a total of 202/6.

The way Shepherd played, I have seen one of the best innings – Imran Tahir

Speaking after his team’s 4-wicket defeat, Guyana Amazon Warriors captain Imran Tahir said that the loss of initial wickets hurt him badly, but he shouted rich praise on Romario Shepherd and saw his best, which he has seen. He explained in detail:

“(What went wrong) I think we lost the early wickets and it was one of the things I could point. The way Shepherd played, one of the best innings I have seen.

“It was a good score. If we did not lose the initial wicket, we should have got 240-250 (with our combination). With our bowling, 200, some day, I must have taken it, but we have not bowled well and sometimes, you have to take it to the chin. You were able to play the batsmen in a field (and we were able to play a field (where we make a mistake).

“(In your next game against Trinbago Knight Riders) This will be a big game. For me, every game is a big game. We are not taking anyone. Todow was an ideal example. Very excited and ready for challenge.”
