IPL Trade Window Rules: What do BCCI rules say?

Trade can only occur during specific trading windows, and even then, only players were maintained by their franchise – not bought in the latest auction – qualified. The main trade window usually opens after a season ends and closes about a week before the next auction.
For a high-value player like Samson, a business phone is not as simple as taking. Both franchises should agree, players should have consent, and contract – often can lock players spread over several sessions. In the case of Samson, he is tied to Rajasthan until 2027 until the Royals released it or made a deal in that narrow trade period.
Why is the Samson-to-CSK trade a long shot?
Samson’s heavy area shows his height of 18 crores, but it also complicates a business. To remove it for CSK, they have to match its value-by offering one or more large names in the neighborhood-or a rare cash-equivalent deal.
This is not the style of CSK. The franchise is known for stability, holding its senior players such as Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gikwad. And both teams have a straight swap, not a direct swap, to explore squad balance, salary cap and retention strategies.
Even if this happens, Rajasthan will face another problem – except for a new captain and batting anchor, everyone is living in a hat and competing at the same level.

Player’s choice: Retention vs auction
A new IPL rule allows players to deny retention and enter auction if they want a change. But there is a grip: they cannot demand to go into a specific team. If Samson chose this route, it will be for tombs by all franchises, not only for CSK.
In short, as long as Rajasthan decides to release Samson and CSK in the 2026 auction, CSK excludes everyone else, the dream of seeing it in yellow remains that much that – a dream.
