He started a tour of England on an outstanding note by breaking a brilliant 204 in a tour match against England Lions in Cancerbury.

However, as the main series began, their form became downhill. 33 -year -old batsman Nair has failed to justify his place and has returned with a low score.

He has batted in three different positions for the team led by Shubman Gill and scored only a 50-plus score. In his return game at Headingley in Leeds, he achieved a duck in the first innings and scored 20 runs in the second innings.

In the second and third Test matches at Edgbaston, Birmingham and Lords, he batted at number 3, scoring 31, 26, 40 and 14 runs. He was left for the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, but returned to the playing XI for the fifth Test at the Oval.

At the conclusion of the series, he scored 57 runs in the first innings, but looked pathetic in the second innings, scoring 17 runs. Overall, he ended with 205 runs in 8 innings on an average of 25.62, and his method of dismissal also came under investigation.

Nair is never really going – Stuart Broad

Speaking on Sky Sports, Pace-Bauling Legend Stuart Broad said Nair was unable to go to India’s second innings with bat. He said:

“England needed it. Nair was never really going. Many people did not go on the face of their bat.”

Meanwhile, Michael Vaughan said that Nair came out playing ‘timid stroke’ and any bowler can bother him with off-stump lines. Speaking on BBC Test Match, he said:

“This is a slight additional bounce. This is such a coward stroke. All the teams can challenge Karun Nair and around that stump. The root team is doing a good chat for the team and she is saying, ‘Look, leads, this pitch is doing a lot. We can probably bowl India in a few hours or two hours.”

It is reported here that the Cricket Frequency reacted to Karun Nair’s return to the flop show:
