Washington Sundar ignored 68 overs
The 25-year-old Tamil Nadu all-rounder has received good support from supporting staff led by Gautam Gambhir, and has time and showed his all-round capabilities again.
In the third Test match against England at Lord’s in London, he gave a game-changing spell with a ball in the third innings, returning with a 4/22 sensational bowling figures.
Despite his heroes, Shubman Gill did not trust Sundar enough in the Manchester Test and did not introduce him to the first 68 overs attack in Old Trafford.
He was eventually brought to an attack in the 69th over and took important wickets of Oli Pope and Harry Brook in quick succession. Talking about the lack of trust in Sundar, India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel said it was a call from captain Shubman Gill.

Washington Beautiful: I am not making any headlines this time, then laughter, Stuart Broad and Nasir Hussain.
Stuart Broad: You need to work on your suggestions and signals. ‘I’m loose, I am ready to go (copy warming).
Broadcaster: You have found to catch his eye. You started looking at him [Shubman Gill]
Washington Beautiful: Most of the time, I’m around the square, so I am sure I cross it every time. But yes, whatever the team needs.
This test looks hundred very special – Washington Beautiful
Sundar hit his first Test in the Manchester Test after refusing to join hands with Ben Stokes and said that he found the milestone very special.
“This test looks a hundred very special,” Sundar said in a conversation with Cheteshwar Pujara on Gehotstar. “I just wanted to fight for a whole day and was the only message given to me by the coach (Gambhir).”
“I was going to bat at number 5 anyway. I was padded for two sessions. I am very happy that I got that opportunity. If I could bat more in future, it would be a blessing.”
He produced a solid 203-Rran partnership in 334 balls with Ravindra Jadeja, which played an important role in the match in India. Talking about the partnership, Sundar said:
“We only wanted to play for every delivery qualification. The wicket was doing a little work. The building partnership was important. The first job was to see the new ball. We wanted to let the ideas of the result go and just focus on every and every delivery.”
