29-year-old Pakistan National Cricket Team batsman Imam-ul-Haq has replaced Ruturaj Gaikawad, a 28-year-old national cricket team batsman in a team amidst Indo-Pak tension.

Imam-ul-Haq has been officially planted by Yorkshire County Cricket Club as a replacement of Ruturaj Gikwad for the remaining of the season.

Ruturaj Gikwad deal with Yorkshire

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, Ruturaj Gikwad signed a contract to represent Yorkshire in five county championship matches as well as Yorkshire in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

He was ready to play his first competitive match from the beginning of April 2025, as he was out of action for a long time, refusing to be out of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL) 2025 due to a elbow injury.

However, on 19 July, before his first appearance for the Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Ruturaj Gikwad took out his deal due to ‘personal reasons’.

Talking about Ruturaj Gikwad’s return, Yorkshire’s head coach Anthony McGrath said it was a ‘disappointing’ development, but he avoided disclosing the real reason behind India Star’s move.

Imam-ul-Haq replaced Ruturaj Gikwad

On July 21, the Yorkshire County Cricket Club announced that they had brought the Pakistan National Cricket Team Batter Imam-ul-Haq to the team as a foreign signature.

YCC confirmed that Imam-ul-Haq would be in the match against Surrey in Scarborough and would be with the side for the rest of the season.

“Pakistan will go directly to the squad for this week’s clash with Surrey at Multi-Format International Scarborough and will be with the team for the Metro Bank One Day Cup and the rest of the Roths County Championship Games in September.”

Yorkshire said in an official statement, “Left -handed batsman, Pakistan’s nephew is the first -class average of 43 and its team Pakistan Television came back from behind to help win their home first -class trophy,” Yorkshire said in an official statement.

In an official statement, Gavin Hamilton, general manager of Yorkshire of Cricket, said he was “naturally disappointed” with a contract with Ruturaj Gikwad, but was happy for Imam-ul-Haq in the squad, who are “extraordinary players”. Hamilton said:

“We are happy that the Imam is connected to us and he would be available immediately. While we were naturally disappointed that we could not join the Ruturaj team, we have an extraordinary player in the Imam to prove an extraordinary player.

“The Imam has an impressive record and is already familiar with domestic cricket in this country that will make us stand in a good place for an important block of fixtures. We are grateful for the pace in which he has come to the country and everyone in the club is eager to work with him until the end of the season.”

Imam-ul-Haq has played 24 Test matches for the Pakistan National Cricket Team and has scored 1568 runs on an average of 37.33. In addition, he has played 75 ODIs and scored 3152 runs at an average of 47.04 on an average. In T20Is, he got only two matches, where he scored 21 runs on an average of 10.50.
