New Zealand National Cricket Team Batting Superstar Kane Williamson has shared their adventurous views on India National Cricket Team Test Captain Shubman Gill.
Kane Williamson felt that Shubman Gill replied to the initial challenges of being a captain in Test cricket “beautifully” and said the captaincy sits well with him.

Shubman Gill became the 37th Test captain of India National Cricket Team and started his captaincy in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against the England National Cricket Team.
Gill was 25 years and 258 days at the time of his appointment, became the fifth youngest player for Captain India in Test cricket, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi (21 years, 77 days), Sachin Tendulkar (23 years, 169 days), Kapil Dev (24 years, 48 days) and Ravi Shastri (25 years, 22 years)).
Shubman Gill performed brilliantly in his first innings as a Test captain and slammed 147 runs, but India lost that match by 5 wickets in Hadingley in Leeds.
In the next Test match in Edgbaston in Birmingham, Shubman Gill improved his performance and returned with a score of 269 and 161, tasting his first success, India registered a major 336-run win.
With the victory at Edgbaston, he became the youngest Indian Test captain to win a foreign test at the age of 25 years and 301 days, crossing the previous record of Sunil Gavaskar. Meanwhile, under its leadership, India lost the third Test match at Lord in London despite a good performance.

In a conversation with Toi, Kane Williamson said he was not surprised to see BCCI appointing Shubman Gill as a Test captain as young people are a world class player in the formats. Ken Williamson said:
“She has been beautifully replied, isn’t she not? I always thought that the captaincy sits well with Shubman. I know being a franchise space a little different, you know that it is a small type of project vs. Captain in your country, which you know that it is very much consumed. When you are in that role, you ever play a lot of roles in this field.”

“Looking at Shubman and she is wise beyond her years and you know that the responsibility is naturally something she has to take. So hearing that the opportunity was not surprising for me, but you know that the quality of the player is something that goes without saying. He is completely world -class. He is completely worldly. Shubman Gill has pacified his doubt with his performance in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 as he is currently a leading run-song with 607 runs in his bag at an extraordinary average of 101.16. Ken Williamson is influenced by Gill’s heroes in England, as he said:
“To see him here and the circumstances that can be challenging with Duke from time to time, and it is surprising as he dominates.”
Ken Williamson is also optimistic for Gill’s success as a captain and suggested that if the 25 -year -old man keeps his batting and leadership separate and balanced, he would excel in both areas.
“And then I think that the role of him and his comfort in that role leads a long way for a leader of the Indian team. Cricketer Shubman and leadership qualities that they have … If he separates those people, both departments have real quality and actually start embedding with things you give value, as well as with head coaches.”
“Formation of really strong bonding … It’s really important and I think what we’re looking at in these early stages. For that, there are really valuable lessons and we are looking at the leader that he will become but it is still the early day.
