Former Team India Batter Wasim Jafar has praised Shubman Gill for his impressive performance with BAT and his leadership in the ongoing Test series against England. Jafar also said that Gill played the role of important number 4 with great responsibility, which fills the zero left by Virat Kohli.
Shubman Gill made a strong start for his captaincy tenure in the test series against England. He scored a century (147) in the first innings in the headingley, followed by two more centuries (269 and 161) in the second Test in Edgbaston. Team India won the five-match series 1–1, winning 336 runs.

Virat Kohli retired from sudden trials just before the ING vs ENG series. It did not go down well with fans as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had reiterated the desire to play Test cricket even further.
“Number 4, the way he has taken responsibility, and the way he has filled Virat Kohli’s zero, it is not small shoes to fill. The way he batted in the first two Tests, he was outstanding. And I think he would think he would become a good leader,” Jafar said.

Wasim Jafar said that the leadership has excluded the best from Gill. He said that the young captain has already proved his ability to handle pressure. Jafar expressed optimism about India’s future under Gill’s captaincy.
“The pressure we talk about, will the captaincy pressure affect its performance, we have got the answer. Captaining is bringing out the best from Gill. Cleverly, he will improve. She is this up-end-and-week,” Jafar continued.
“He is a very intelligent boy, someone who goes from the front. Therefore, he is not going away from responsibility. I see good things under his captaincy,” he concluded.

Earlier, England posted 387 in their first innings, in which Joe Root scored in a century. Jamie Smith and Bridan Cars added half -centuries. For India, Jasprit Bumrah was a standout artist with five wickets, while Mohammad Sirj and Reddy took two wickets in each.
