India is currently playing in the five-match testing series in England, marking the beginning of their 2025–27 WTC cycle. However, India will never forget its derogatory exit from the WTC final race in 2025, after losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by a derogatory margin of 1-3.
After the damage, the BCCI took some strict decisions to improve the players and at the same time the squad is rebuilt for better results in the coming years. BCCI has issued a 10-point guideline, one of which mentioned that only one restricted time will be allowed to spend families with players.
The move taken by the BCCI received mixed response, as some former cricketers supported it; However, modern great people like Virat Kohli showed disappointment on such a cruel decision.

Suresh Raina supported Virat Kohli’s disappointment
In a recent appearance on Ranveer Allahbadia’s YouTube channel, former Indian middle-order batsman, Suresh Raina, expressed that having a family with you on the tour helps players to get mental support during their climb.
Suresh Raina said, “You have issues of mental health. When you are going through a lean stage and an army gun for your location, such issues harvest. You are afraid that you are being dropped. When the chips are down, you need to talk to someone,” Suresh Raina said.
“It is very important to have a family on tourism. The BCCI has made a big decision that the family is not allowed – I am against it. You are sending them on a tour for two months … The family should be allowed.”
Suresh Raina said, “It is not that he (family) is against the players, they (also) want us to score runs and win the country.”
To return his claims, he referred to Virat Kohli. He said, “(imagine) Virat Kohli playing, clapping his daughter – this is such a proud moment. He will set the stage on fire.”
Following the implications of the rules from the BCCI, some players whose families were noted to be present in the Marki events like the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which were held in Dubai, all were on individual tourism and not with the Indian side.
The families of cricketers like Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rohit Sharma lived in separate hotels, and their expenses were borne by the players themselves, not by the BCCI.
