Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri excavated a chutila in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Dinesh Karthik to release Shubman Gill before the 2022 IPL mega auction. Karthik said that he had no role in that call, as he was released before the same auction by Kolkata.

“The first time I met him, when he was selected for KKR. I was saddened. He came as an inaugural batsman, but he could not fit it at number 3. So, he batted at number 6 and 7. It was not adapted to him, but not once,” Karthik said.
“Next year, we didn’t start well. So, one day he went up and said, ‘DK brother I think this time I can open now’. It was a revelation for me, a young boy is coming and saying, ‘I think I am ready. [a big score]”He said.
Dinesh Karthik then released Shubman Gill next year – Ravi Shastri
Reacting to Karthik’s comment, Ravi Shastri made a funny comment. Ravi Shastri jokingly said that despite everything, Karthik had asked Gill to promote as a opener, he released him the following year.
“By the way, DK said all this, opening the innings, and then he released it the following year,” Ravi Shastri quipped.
