Shubman Gill hits a double tonne in Edgbaston Test
Gill had a very poor record in foreign Test matches before Gill was nominated as captain, and his appointment was questioned.
However, the captaincy has greatly suited Gill, and he has completely changed himself as a batsman since he handled the leadership.
In his first innings as a skipper in Hadingley in Leeds, he slammed an excellent centenary and took his performance to the next level in the second Test match.
Gill looked under incredible control during the Edgbaston Test and made Life Hell for English bowlers. He slammed a brilliant 269 runs off 387 balls, with 30 fours and 3 sixes, helping India to record a huge score.
With his dual tons, Gill broke Virat Kohli’s record by an Indian Test captain for the highest score and became the second youngest Indian captain to hit a Test double-heart.
Shubman Gill follows double tons with hundred in Edgbaston Test
Gill was not satisfied with his double tonne in the first innings and followed it with a notable century in the second innings off 129 balls.
With a century in a dual century and the same Test match, Shubman Gill has become the second Indian batsman only after Sunil Gavaskar to achieve this achievement.
In addition, he is only the second batsman to achieve the achievement in the World Test Championship after Maarnas Lebassachagan. Overall, Gill has become the third batsman in the history of cricket, who scores 250 and hundred in the same test after Graham Gooch and Kumar Sangakkara.
Speaking on Sky Sports Cricket after Gill reached a three-day mark in the second innings, Nasar Hussain said:
“Looks for the difference, takes a single. In the first Test, a hundred, a double hundred, and the second one is as his life. The Indian captain is as his life. Sunil Gavaskar is a century in a century and the only other Indian to score a double in the same test.
Here is described how X reacted to Shubman Gill’s sensational performance in the Edgbaston Test:
269 after a century in the next innings. He looked very hungry for more runs than the first ball. What is a performance by Shubman Gill.#ENGVIND

Another imperfect innings by Shubman Gill, the Indian captain should be under so much pressure and yet he produced the highest score in a test by an Indian batsman.
Don’t call him a prince, he is already king @Shubmangill
