Team India cricketer Prithvi Shaw has opened up a difficult phase in his career, including the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in the auction. Shaw also admitted that he has made many wrong decisions in his life, and his interest in cricket has declined due to off-field distraction.

In an interview with News24 Sports, Prithvi Shaw admitted that the poor option and off-field distribution impressed his game. Shaw revealed that he used to spend most of his days on the field, before he began to surround himself with the wrong people.

“Only I know what has happened. I have made many wrong decisions in my life. I think I started giving less time to cricket. Earlier, I used to bat in the trap for three to four hours, and my half was spent on the ground by 2023,” Shaw said.

He said, “After that, I started considering things that were not as important. I made some wrong friends, who started taking me here and there. I got distracted during that time.”

The 25 -year -old batsman said that he decided to distance himself away from some friends and change the lifestyle. Shaw also expressed disappointment on public perception, saying that a simple outing like family’s food is also wrongly understood.

In the same interview, Prithvi Shaw talked about his weight and said that he never stopped training, but his lack of control over food increased weight. Shaw admitted that his food habits affected his fitness.

“I am a big dinner. So, I did not control it. It was not that I had not trained, but there was no control over my food. The amount of food I eaten was more, and then I would sleep right after eating. Also, my immune system was such that if I did not train for a while, I would show it,” Shaw said.

Prithvi Shaw has played five Tests, six Odis and one T20I for India. He scored 134 runs on his Test debut against West Indies in 2018.

Shaw was removed from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad in the domestic season of 2024-25 after just two matches due to fitness issues. He was also released by the selectors from the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad.

Batter scored 197 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 156.34 during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which ended as Mumbai’s third largest run-scorer in his title-winning campaign. He last played competitive cricket in the Mumbai T20 League 2025.
