Shardul Thakur did God’s things in second innings versus England
Thakur was selected as a pace-bouncing all-rounder on Nitish Kumar Reddy in the Indian play for the first Test against England.
Pace-Bauling all-rounder, who set fire to India’s final tour of India, was not given enough over by his captain to bowl in the first innings.
Shubman Gill did not show confidence in Shardul Thakur to take wickets, and he mostly trusted Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Sirraj, Prasad Krishna and Ravindra Jadeja.
India bowled 100.4 overs in their first innings with the ball, and after being introduced in a very late attack, Shardul Thakur was given only 6 overs, in which he became wickets and scored 38 runs.
Even in the second innings, Shardul Thakur bowled the lowest overs among all Indian bowlers, but he was able to make a significant impact, taking two wickets for 51 runs in his 10 overs.
Thakur initially bowled loose delivery, but displayed ‘Lordship’ by creating a magical double-vick. Shardul Thakur dismissed the Centurion Ben Docket and Harry Brook for a duck in the 55th over for 149, helping India a mini-a mini-comback.
The use of Shardul was slightly reduced, but the reason for this was … – Gautam Gambhir
In the post -match press conference, Gautam Gambhir said that Shardul Thakur was reduced with the ball as all -rounder Ravindra Jadeja was bowling very well, and Captain Shubman Gill decided to go with the spinner. Gautam Gambhir also appreciated Shardul Thakur for his impressive mantra in the second innings. He said:
“Shardul’s use was slightly reduced, but this was probably the reason for this [Ravindra] Jadeja really bowled well, so we thought Jadeja would give us control. Shardul took two important wickets.
“So I am not going to sit here and say that this man did not bowl well or the man bowled well. Shardul gave us two important wickets, which got us back in the game. I think we are just more consistent. This is more important, and these boys will learn.”
I think Prasad really bowled well – Gautam Gambhir
In the Leeds Test against England, Famous Krishna was the most successful bowler for India after Jasprit Bumrah, but he was quite expensive as he scored 220 runs for 5 wickets.
Talking about Krishna, Gautam Gambhir said that Pesar bowled well and he is one for the future. India’s head coach said:
“I think Prasad really bowled well. They also got us important wickets. We took him because we thought he got something different. He got that bounce, and in the first innings, I think he thinks he uses really well, [and] Also in the second innings.
“He will continue to be better with the experience. He has found all the ingredients of being a very good bowler, the best bowler, which he showed in Australia and here too. That is why I said that we will continue to support these boys.”
Gautam Gambhir also supported the Indian bowling unit after a failure to protect 371 runs in the fourth innings against England. He said:
“They are inexperienced bowlers, but they will continue to get better, and we also saw in this Test match that, for the first four days, we were in a position, and even five days we were in a position where we had won the Test matches. So we believe and we believe that we can. These boys will distribute to us.”
