Former Team India bowling coach Paras Mhambre has described the retirement from Ace Batter Virat Kohli as a selfless decision from Test cricket. MHMBRE said that Kohli and Rohit Sharma felt that they could no longer perform at their peak in the longest format of the game for the India National Cricket Team.
On 7 May, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket. Virat Kohli took his decision only five days later. Retirement left fans emotional before the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, India will start its new cycle with a five -match Test series in England.

Paras Mhambre said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma knew that they were no longer in their best in Test cricket, which probably affected their decision to retire. He said that Kohli did not have one and five years in the format and he said that it was the right time to go away.
MHMBRE told Hindustan Times, “Virat did not have a five -year Test cricket.
“They always say how valuable they can be in their contribution. And sometimes, this is the inspiration bit. Maybe they were not motivated to fulfill that format. They will not be able to give that format the best. And this is the way they attach to. So the very selfless attitude, both, said.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from tests and T20I
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retired from Test and T20I cricket, but both are expected to continue to play ODI, their target is likely with the 2027 World Cup.
Kohli, who made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2011, played 113 Tests, scored over 9,200 runs on an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries and 31 fifty decades. However, his average in recent years was reduced by 50, and his long-standing weakness outside the off-stump was highlighted.
Rohit started his test career with two centuries in his first series against the West Indies, but struggled to secure a permanent space in Xi as a middle-order batsman. His red-ball career was revived in 2019 when he was promoted to open the innings.
However, Rohit failed to score runs against New Zealand and Australia. He eventually left himself for a final test of the 2024–25 Australia series in Sydney, which lost 1–2 in India.

Paras Mhambre believes that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s decision to retire from tests and T20 Eye will help them to focus on the ODI completely, where they can still contribute.
“Sometimes you are not in the frame of the mind to go through the piece. If I am not 100%there, I will just be honest and say, I am good in a format. Let me focus on another format, which I can be more useful for the team,” he said.
India has been designed to start a new era in Test cricket as it is in England in the opening match of the five -match Test series starting on Friday in Leeds. Shubman Gill will lead the team, in which Rishabh Pant was nominated as his vice-captain.
