A number of players were bought at very high prices in the IPL mini-auction, although some seemed completely justified to buy, and the credibility of some of them was under intense scrutiny.
Cameron Green may have earned a good amount of money, but it seems that many players have earned huge amounts, which was not expected from that cricketer. One of those cricketers was veteran Lankan fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana, who was bought for a whopping price of Rs 18 crore.
Here is the list of overpriced players in IPL 2026:
7. Mathisha Pathirana
Mathisha Pathirana was released by his former franchise Chennai Super Kings. Kolkata Knight Riders made every effort to acquire his services; However, the severity of the player’s injury and lack of bowling discipline have raised questions about his madness.
It appears that such a huge investment in a relatively young fast bowler does not seem to be the wisest decision of the KKR management.
6. Mustafizur Rahman
Bangladesh’s left arm fast bowler Mustafizur was bought for Rs 9.2 crore. His availability for the upcoming IPL is very much in doubt, and in such circumstances, the huge amount spent by Abhishek Nair and Venky Mysore on him seemed insane.
However, Rahman is a bowler who is known for his supreme skill with the white ball in the death overs.
5. Venkatesh Iyer
The former KKR batsman got his final bid priced lower by the biggest margin in the history of IPL. After heavy bidding last season, Royal Challengers Bangalore bought him in this auction for just Rs 7 crore.
Iyer has been out of form for more than two years now, and that too not only in the IPL but also in the domestic matches. Iyer may not be the right number. 3 for the RCB team, and that is where they intend to keep him.
4. Prashant Veer
The youngster from UP is undoubtedly a promising emerging player and can perform well for the Super Kings. But for a player of his calibre, and considering his inexperience, an extremely high purse never seemed a logical bid for the Super Kings.
The batsman will be placed lower down the order and the onus will be on Veer to finish the innings for the CSK team. He was bought for 14.2 crores.
3. Karthik Sharma
Another young player also looks very promising, as he has emerged as a serious hitter of the ball. However, considering Karthik’s exorbitant price tag of Rs 14.2 crore, he will have to be included in the playing eleven.
For a 20-year-old batsman who is known as a pinch hitter during the latter stages of the innings, the purse-emptying bid seemed like a slightly controversial decision.
2. Josh Inglis
Josh Inglis had informed IPL franchises that he would be available only for 25% of the season, and for a player who is not even offered a full season, paying Rs 8.60 crore does not seem like a wise decision.
However, the determination shown by Tom Modhe to bid on him made it appear that he was included in the XI as a part of his long-term plans.
1.Jason Holder
The West Indies all-rounder, who was not prioritized as a pick in the auction, suddenly fetched a huge sum of Rs 7 crore from Gujarat Titans. With Sherfane Rutherford gone, GT may find an overseas spot in the eleven, but Holder is by no means a good fit.
Hence, Holder’s selection for the Ashish Nehra-led team is very doubtful.
